DAY 6 - Saskatchewan!
Well, last night was not a great sleep at all. There is an insane heat wave moving through Manitoba right now and it was so hot in the truck that we had to wake up every hour to turn the truck on for AC. When we finally woke up for the day (at 7am), we looked out the window and saw a car parked very close, directly beside us... in the back corner of the entirely empty Walmart parking lot. It was a very weird start to the day lol
We quickly re-arranged the truck and continued rolling through the rest of Manitoba. My favourite part about this province was easily the long dirt roads that run parallel to the transcanada highway, and watching the pick up trucks kick the dust up. We actually ended up pulling off onto one of these dirt roads for our usual tailgate lunch while we watched the tractor trailers roll by and listened to the winds flow through the grasslands. It was an absolute surreal moment.
After lunch, we hit Saskatchewan! Zack was convinced we were going to both sit on top of the sign for a picture. The sign was so slippery that it took all his might, a boost from me and some hard battle wounds to capture the epic photo above. The battle wounds on Zacks chest, stomach and forearm are also pictured above - but it doesn't quite do them justice!!
To be completely honest, there isn't much to say about Saskatchewan 😂 it is very flat and grassy, with an infinite number of cows. We did see some cool salt mines, and miles of hay bails but that's about the extent of the excitement.
We stopped in Regina where we were initially going to post up for the night, but quickly changed our minds. After going through the downtown strip and seeing the beaten town we decided to stop for gas and go from there. After filling up the tank we headed inside through the front doors (one plywood from being smashed and the other intact). While paying, Zack asked if a car backed into the door and shattered the glass. Completely calm he told us that it was a drunk man that shook the door too hard and just wanted a bag of chips. It's okay though, he reassured us it was only the second time this has happened in the past six months!! That was enough for us to decided to drive a little further and reach Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Once arrived, we witnessed the masacre of insects we had driven into and figured it was probably a goodtime we mooched some more wifi from McDonald's. While there, we realized we deleted most of the videos and photos off the go pro by accident which really sucks. At least we figured it out before the real trip begins Friday when we arrive in Canmore!
Leaving Walmart, we crawled into our
luxury bed at hotel fiso (f150), and lay comfy awaiting tomorrow's adventures.
