DAY 5 - Manitoba!!

After a short sleep in the back of the truck last night, we got up to enjoy some early morning, tailgatin' strawberry mini wheats! (Zack's all-time favourite cereal 😂) We then went for a quiet morning stroll to stretch our legs, gased up and headed out.   Much to our surprise, the drive through Northwestern Ontario has been gorgeous. The rolling mountains covered in trees, rocky cliffs, and Lake Superior running alongside us has made the trip very easy so far.
Around noon we stopped for some Mortadella sandwiches again (which I still wasn't allowed to make) alongside a beautiful pond filled with lilypads. We had plans to make it to Kenora before lunch but Zack was getting hangry haha
Thankfully, before we knew it we reached Manitoba! And what a change in scenery that was. The roads were so rough you could barely keep the truck straight and the trees looked like this was where the firebans should be. After about an hour into Manitoba (as I was taking a little snooze) Zack realized what a pleasure the sad looking trees were, as now all that was left were flatlands. As we made our way through Winnipeg we began to witness the 2km+ long trains, busy streets and The Jets Stadium they are well known for! We found our luxury Walmart hotel for the night, mooched McDonalds wifi and finalized some of our upcoming plans!
We decided to go out for dinner tonight so we headed over to Original Joe's to try it out. Ten wings for $4.99, a big Ceasar salad and 2 tank sized beers sounded amazing after a full day. Well at least the beer still went down nicely, because the rest of the food certainly didn't. The wings were the tiniest I've ever seen, with so little meat and so crusty that Zack and I were convinced they ate the wings, refried them and served them again (see picture about for reference - fyi, only one of those wings has been eaten). As we both laughed our heads off and tried to choke down the crunchy chicken wings, we couldn't help but think of Dawn saying "I would never serve food like this!" and how much we were relating to it in that moment. For once in my life I actually said something to the waitress, which goes to show you just how bad they were. Our waitress was absolutely lovely the entire night, and even took them off our bill.
Now we are all cozied up in the truck to get a good night sleep before Saskatchewan tomorrow!
