DAY 21 - En Route to The Yukon!

After our awesome 5 day stay in Jasper we had a bitter sweet goodbye and headed towards Dawson's Creek, BC. Bitter because we really enjoyed our time in Jasper and didn't want to leave, but sweet because we can't wait to make it to our first territory,  The Yukon. After making some delicious banana chocolate chip pancakes for Melinda and I, we packed up our tent, reorganized the entire truck for the 84738292929475th time and got ready to go. As a side note, I'm starting to get a little tired of repacking the truck. It's like when you've let your bedroom/house or laundry go for a while and it really needs done.. its like that except that's every other day when you're living out of a truck 😒 and on top of that when your looking for something, it's always in the worst spot. Most of the time it's sandwiched in the middle of the back seat between the dry food bin and cooler underneath 100 different things.
Anyways, we left our campsite and headed towards Dawson's Creek. I was not on the ball today and a terrible Nicky navigates. We were supposed to head towards the Alaska highway but I finally got reception on my phone so I was to preoccupied with that instead of helping my driver. After passing the turn off for the Alaska highway, that I very clearly pointing out without thinking... I checked Melinda's phone that the GPS was setup on it and it said 76km until you have to turn left. Perfect. After passing through a town and driving for about 50km Melinda asked me to look ahead.. for some reason the GPS didn't tell us to pull a U-turn immediately when we passed the Alaska highway like it normally does, but instead go 76km then turn around lol so yeah about an extra hour on the drive today. The scenery on the drive was very mundane to be honest, so not much excitment to post today. We also didn't see any wildlife except for a couple dead things on the road... So I mean it's good that nothing ran out in front of us, but sucks because we want to see some wildlife!!!! Although we did finally see our first mountain goat while leaving Jasper, not on a cliff or mountain like you would assume, just standing on the side of the road munching away by himself 😂
We made it to Dawson's Creek B.C at about 6:15pm but gaining an extra hour it was actually 5:15pm. After going into Walmart for some ice and me getting some sweet comfy matching jammies, we made some dinner. As Melinda was about to make our burgers, she noticed the tzatziki had been waterlogged. So we improvised and decided to make helluva good burgers (burger with pineapple, helluva good dip, and cheese). Trademark is pending. As Melinda was making them a Filipino woman walked by and with a judgey look and huge grin she said "Have a nice Deener!" And her son followed with a, "BYE 😁" Melinda and I burst into laughter at how we looked, making burgers on our tailgate in a Walmart parking lot. We thought we might fit in seeing as how the parking lot was full of trucks and rednecks left, right and center, but apparently making dinner on your tailgate is a littttle over the line haha
We were planning on staying in Dawson's Creek for the night but decided if we drive a couple extra hours tonight we can make it into Whitehorse earlier on Saturday. We have an air BNB booked for the Saturday and Sunday so we're definitely looking forward to a nice shower and cozy sleep, especially after 3 days in hotel fiso (f150). Considering we're on the Alaska Highway and it's about 1390KM straight to The Yukon, there isn't much going on along the way. We drove past a rest area around 7:30pm and thought great, that means there will be more along the way! We were most definitely wrong, and are currently on a very small grass pull off beside the highway for the night. While we were setting up our bed we also noticed some GIANT moose prints right beside us, so that's always good news too lol hopefully they may come visit us tomorrow while we are waking up and safe and sound in the truck! Off to bed now to get some sleep before another long (hopefully more interesting) drive tomorrow!
