DAY 10 - Banff National Park!
After being sketchy and sleeping in the hotel parking lot, we got up bright and early to head to Banff! We wanted to be super flexible with out trip and not have any tie downs so that we could stay as long or as little as we wanted in a certain place. This does mean however, that we didn't have any pre-booked accomodation. Since we were camping, we knew it was going to be especially hard to find a place in Banff as they get booked up months in advance. We decided to just go to some campgrounds and check out their availability. The drive from Canmore was short, but not short of exciting! The mountain grew clearer and bigger as we approached.
The first place we wanted to check was Tunnel Mountain Campground which is in Banff National Park and very close to the town of Banff. Much to our surprise, they actually had a couple sites!! We had to wait until it became available at 11am, so we headed into town to do a nice drive by and stock up on some groceries. The small part of town that we saw was stunning, with mountains surrounding and beautiful architecture everywhere. While we were grocery shopping it began to rain pretty hard. It sucked because we knew we would have to set up in the rain, but good because we know they need it here.
Luckily we had a bit of a break from rain that gave up the time to set up shop. We strung out a little tarp for extra cover, popped up the tent, and set up our cozy home for the next little while. The site we got was perfect, good privacy with no neighbours on 1 side, and backing onto a field of nature. It rained the rest of the afternoon, so we ended up hanging out in the tent and planning out our days in Banff. The plan is to stay here for about 5 days, then head to Jasper for another 5 days.
When it was time for dinner we pulled out our propane stove and got to cooking some burgers and salad. While we were making it, we had some unexpected guests as 3 white tailed deer casually walked by our campsite. After dinner we called it a night, cleaned up and headed for bed. These past couple days have been more relaxed, but we have big plans for the next little while. Tomorrow we are off to hike The Plain of 6 Glaciers and see Lake Louise!
